CBG is the abbreviation of the substance cannabigerol. It is also a cannabinoid that is found in small amounts in the hemp plant itself, mainly when it is heated and broken down. Moreover, as CBG only makes up about 1% of the plant, it is more challenging to obtain sufficient quantities of the substance.
There has been some research into CBG and its effects, but medical knowledge is still very limited. Some studies in rats have demonstrated improvement in medical conditions such as glaucoma or colitis, while there is evidence that it helps counteract Huntington’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Some people also use it for pain associated with cancer, whether or not it’s a placebo. In fact, there are currently studies on cannabinoids that have a proven effect against cancer, but with CBC oil instead of CBG or CBD.
Conditions that have been studied and where CBG has been shown to have an effect in animals include loss of appetite, pain relief, and some skin diseases. However, much more research on the subject is still needed to establish results in the human body.
CBG vs CBD
Both are cannabinoids from the hemp plant, but they differ in properties and composition. CBG and CBD can alleviate medical conditions in similar ways, but they are also substances that do not create a buzz. CBG also interacts directly with the brain’s cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, while CBD does not.
So there are no negative sensory states or inhibition of cognitive functions, which is considered to be one of the main benefits of these preparations. There is also research suggesting that CBG can alleviate anxiety and depression, however this is not something that the Medical Products Agency has confirmed.
Is CBN oil legal?
Yes, it is perfectly legal. As long as a CBG oil does not contain any THC, there are no barriers to buying the product. However, in Sweden you can only use oils extracted from seeds, i.e. „cannabis sativa oil”, „hemp seed oil”.
How to dose CBG oil
Take 1 drop per day at first, then you can increase to 3-4 drops daily. Always read the packaging as the oils may differ, and shake the bottle well before use. You can take CBG oil under your tongue, or mixed in a glass of water.
